Name der Frau, die F. Petrarca in den lyrischen Gedichten des »Canzoniere« (gedruckt 1470) und in den allegorischen »Trionfi« (entstanden zwischen 1357 und 1374, gedruckt 1470) besingt. Von Laura berichtet er u. a. auch in seinem autobiographischen »Secretum« (entstanden 1342/43, gedruckt 1470) und in den »Epistolae familiares« (abgeschlossen 1366, gedruckt 1492). Danach sah er Laura zum ersten Mal am Karfreitag, dem 6. 4. 1327, in der Kirche der heiligen Klara zu Avignon, und sie starb dort am 6. 4. 1348 an der Pest, ohne die Liebe des Dichters erwidert zu haben. Die historische Existenz Lauras ist umstritten. Vermutlich hat Petrarca unter diesem Namen verschiedene Erlebnisse zusammengefasst.
